Professional editing for Books
I can help you in each of the phases of the writing process:
Book Planning
If you are planning to write a book, two 45-60 minute consultations are typically sufficient to get you writing. However, I am also available for short phone or video consultations if further check-ins are needed.
For book planning, I need to speak to you and need to see some sort of a plan. It can be a word document, google document or presentation. |
Structural Editing
Structural editing usually takes between three and six weeks for me to complete. If you have a deadline, make sure you book far enough in advance for me to finish the task, provide you with your feedback and still have time left to make the changes. The changes resulting from structural editing are likely to be substantial, and can involve re-writing sections, moving sections of text around and then re-joining them, or even cutting text altogether. My feedback will consist of a series of recommendations, and you are not obligated to accept them all. You will probably like some ideas and reject others. Remember it is your book, and you must make the final decisions.
While I would normally do this using Word, it is not absolutely essential, if you prefer to work with some other collaborative platform, such as Google docs. |
Copy Editing
Copy editing usually takes several days, so, as with structural editing, keep this in mind if you have a deadline. For successful copy editing, it is essential that your manuscript is created using Word. If you are unable to provide me with a Word document, I can convert what you have into a Word document.
When I copy edit your manuscript, I will read each line slowly and carefully and make changes using the track changes function in Word. I will be looking for the following:
In summary, copy editing is about the language and quality of communication. |
